Every year at Mason Middle School the 8th grade classes take on a large project. They have to choose their hero, write them a letter telling them why, interview several people about their hero, write an essay about them and then on one special night the hero's are invited to attend a program where the kids celebrate and share why they chose the person they did. This year Kiersten chose her Dad, Jacob.
It was very eye opening to see why she chose him. She shared many stories in her essay but the one she chose to present was about when we lived in Monroe, Utah. Jacob made it a point to have a special date night with each girl individually. Once a week he would take one daughter to where ever they wanted to go. It could be for ice-cream, bowling or what ever they wanted. One particular night that Kiersten remembered was when they went to get ice-cream. Jacob took the time needed to sit down with her and talk to her about her life and her likes and dislikes. She said it made her feel so special, like he truly cared about her.
Jacob has so many things over the years that they can't be counted. His kindness and compassion to others is one of the reasons I fell in love with him. While we were dating it was Christmas morning and he knew that one of his friends families wouldn't have any presents for their kids so he wrapped up everything he had gotten for Christmas and took it to them. He got nothing that year or so it seemed but in reality he received the most precious gift imaginable.
He shared a story with me years ago and it has always touched me. Again it was Christmas time and they were living in Arizona. Their family didn't have much money that year and they had been looking for a used bike for one of his younger brothers. Jacob had gone with his mom to all the thrift shops in town and couldn't find a bike any where. They were so disappointed and didn't know what to do. Jacob came up with the idea that he would hide his own bike and pretend it had been stolen. Then he would paint it a different color so his brother wouldn't know it was his old bike. Jacob was so happy to be able to help and make his brother feel so special. He has such a big heart and wants to give anything he can to make someone's life better. I for one am proud to call him my husband. Jacob you are my hero too!
